1977 CB 750k seat issues

CBGeorge
Hello all, I'm looking for advice with my cb750k seat/tank arrangement. I bought this recently from a guy who claims the original owner had this bike customized by adding a larger cb tank available from honda that year, along with what he believed was a different seat in order to accommodate for the tank. Overall the bike came in decent condition and looks clean, however, there seems to be a horrible issue with the way the seat pivots when opened. The edge of the stee frame seat will bind with the old side covers on the bike! It makes me cringe! The side cover on the hinge side is scratched on the top from all the times this seat was opened and was rubbing against the side cover. I am not a person who you could call a neat freak or perfectionist. I am more of a preservative person. I dont care if theres dings or chips here and there. What wakes me up in my sleep at night is knlwing things like rust is spreading or these plastic side covers which are near impossible to find, are cracking due to a stupid issue like this! I believe that a taller hinge would lift the seat farther from the side cover, allowing for clearance. However, nothing seems to be available, let alone stock replacement hinges for this seat! Would you say the seat , tank, side covers, etc are not stock to this year bike? Please give me your thoughts! It would be a huge help to know what parts/pieces I have for repairs and maintenance purposes! Also if it is not stock and needs to be replaced with functional parts so the seat can open without issues, that would be something I would be willing to do!
Thanks everyone and happy riding!

Looks all stock to me. Honda never offered any extra large tanks, or any other options for that mater. It would be helpful to see what the hinges look like to see if they were changed or damaged.

Yes that is the stock seat setup. The rubbing on the side cover might be because the seat has been recovered, and padding has been added that makes the seat a little wider at the bottom edge making it rub the side cover when open. You also might want to check the rubber grommets on the frame that hold the side cover on, they might be misshapen, or the side cover mounts might have been broken and repaired getting them out of place. I have seen a lot of poorly repaired side covers.

Thanks for the quick responses, I have a few sets of new grommets coming in and I will check to make sure there is only one seat layer when I redo the seat in a week or so! That totaly makes sense and can be the problem.
