1977 Honda CB750F Syncing Carbs

After cleaning my carbs out several times I still can't get the bike running smoothly, the first carb is still pouring out gas but I can run it and the idle is very choppy. There is a guy in the city that has a collection of over 60 Honda CBs and owns a shop with a Dyno Jet Tester, he told me to bring the bike to him. He said after 1 - 4 hours (at $90 Canadians dollars/hr) he can get my bike running perfectly, and if I don't try and tweak the carbs they'll be good for several years. Would this be a good idea (keep in mind this is my first bike and I've never dealt with carbs before)? Someone else told me that with CBs every year the carbs had to be re synced. Anyone have any thoughts?

Well 90 is quite pricy. Have you made sure you have cleaned all the crud? The valve seats for the floats get dirty and prevent sealing. Or it could be the tip of the needle, the rubber could be worn. OR if you have the crappy all metal tips, it will never seal.

It IS a lot of work initially BUT if you learn it, then you will know it. It gets harder and harder to find people the will work on these bikes.
IF you decide to have him do the work, remember, it will probably cost 400-500$. That is why I somewhat strongly suggest learning it.

As for syncing, no it does not need to be done every year. That is hooey really, to be somewhat blunt.
Unless you remove the slides, it is rarely needed more than every 3 or 4 years.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

I don't think it's the needle or the float itself, because when I cleaned everything and put it back together I didn't keep track of the needle or the floats. Which means that those are good so I'm thinking it's the valve seat then, because that one is so dirty. Is there a link of the internet or somewhere where I can find steps on how to take out the valve seat? I tried it the other day but could not figure it out. Would this have something to do with a choppy idle as well?

If I were to try and sync the bike by myself where would I get a gauge from? And how much would I be looking to pay?
