1977 Honda brake issue

zonson
Hi everybody, me again. Well the back brake on the bike is sticking and I took the wheelf of and inspected the brakes. Nothing wront, pads were fine not worn, nogrove problems. Nothing. When I ride, however, press on the back brake they stick. I sometimes have to press the brake pedal repeatedly for it to unstick, or if I give it enough gas it knocks looes. My step father thinks its a pedal problem or maybe a gearbox problem. I bought the bike from a guy who had it taken apart and put together himeseld, so I have been running into issues that seem to be his doings and not maufacture or standards. Also, there is a bar that adjust the back brake tension, there is a tab on it with an arrow that "looks" like it should be allinged with a "marked" tringlge on the brake cover. I didnt want to undo it just yet, so i thought Id ask before I go jumping into adjusting what doesnt need adjusting. Thanks always guys.

That little bar that can at some time point to the triangle is the brake wear indicator. When it gets to the triangle, you need new shoes. Unless the springs on the brake pads are broken I doubt that the wheel section is your problem. The A's have a pretty intricate parking brake setup on the pedal shaft. When the brake sticks does the pedal stay down, or come back up? Try disconnecting the rod from the brake lever on the backing plate, and see if the pedal moves freely.

Hey Tools and thanks for the quick response. The pedal comes back up, I was told though by my step father that when he was riding behind me one night that my brake light stayed on. So im guessing that, I feel the brake pedal come up but maybe its not comming up all the way. I will try what you suggested and see if its loose or not. I dont have light out right now to mess with it and the garage is full with two other bikes. But, does it sounf more like a pedal issue? Its not an issue that is constant. It acts up when it gets windy and or the rain, I live in Vegas, Nevada. So I sort of thought that the humid type weather was also playing a role in lubercation on some of the parts.

Is the rear brake actually sticking,or is it just the brake light that is staying on? Your rear brake light switch may need adjusting.

Well the pedal doesnt seem to be stick, but the brake does stick itself. You can hear it and feel it in the bike. By feel I mean you can feel the bike dragging and then actually feel it pop loose through the pedal. Not sure If Im spelling pedal right... But the sound, is well, the sound of a brake sticking while the wheel is trying to move. So I know its more than just a light adjusment.

If the pedal is sticking, it will make the brake drag. Remove the linkage rod from the backing plate, and carefully ride to bike to see if the brake drags. If it does, you will know it is the brake itself, or in the parking brake/pedal.

Yea thats what Im leaning too, thanks TOOLS as always. Oh and I usually dont repost if what you told me works, becuase 99.99% of the time it does. Plus Ive been lazy lately, its one of those things where you ask a question and you know your going to get the right answer so why bother questioning.

So thanks ahead of time

Is the brake lining (Hub) worn out and too large in diameter?
