1977 cb750 found for sale need opinions

Governorblack
Hi guys and gals,
I found a guy selling a 1977 cb750a for sale locally (mid Michigan) and he only wants a grand for it. It has been cafe'd but I think it looks really well done. The guy rides it as his daily driver so mechanically it sounds like it's in decent shape. I've never owned a cb750 or any other older bike like this but from what I've been reading they are lots of fun to ride and have readily available parts.
I'm a little confused on the automatic transmission part though. I've ridden bikes for 20 years (mostly Harley's and triumphs) but I've never run across an automatic before.
Is there anything I should look for besides the fuse box and obvious signs of laying it down?
This is the bike

I would disagree on "well done cafe" the frame has been hack sawed off. I would question what other unskilled work has been done. But the matic is very reliable. It is hard to tear up a matic engine and trans. It does have some of the hard to find matic parts still on it "side covers, torque  converter cover, headlight brackets, wheels." I would make an offer on it.

True, the frame has been sawed off, but that's par for the course when it comes to "cafe's" now.

Check the chain/sprockets for wear. Grab the chain at the center of the rear sprocket (9 o'clock position) and see how far you can pull the chain away from the sprocket. If it's more than half a tooth, haggle that it needs a chain. Check the shape of the sprocket teeth. Pointy is bad, they should be nice a wide.

Check for seals for leakage.

It's gonna be a l-o-u-d bike with no mufflers, and the lack of anything behind that seat means you are gonna get a stripe of your bike anytime you ride on anything other than a perfectly dry road.

Check that it charges. SOHC bikes have bulletproof charging systems, and they're pretty cheap to work on if they do need parts. A simple test is just rev the bike and see if the headlight brightens. They dont charge at all at idle, only when revved. If you want to be positive, put a meter on the battery terminals and rev it. You wanna see 13.5- 14.5 volts when revved.

For a good running, titled bike...$1k is a dang good price IMO. If you like the seat, go for it. If you dont like it, you're in it cheap enough to extend/ toss on something else.

Oh, if you test ride and the front brake squeals....it's normal. It's just what they do. :(

So I went to see it today and those pics are two years old. It's more of a rat bike now. The chain has a link of slop but the sprocket is good. It has the original fuse box, no mirrors or turn signals, but carbs were done professionally at a shop and tuned (so he says ) for open pipes. She rode well and feels mechanically sound but there is a fair amount of work to make her respectable again. He is pretty firm on the 1k I was more in the 750 range. Am I being a cheap jerk? Also the rear light is taped to the seat currently because the finish loop is not mounted on yet.

Some pics below of things now.
