1979 CB750 Tachometer gasket

I am replacing the bolt and gasket for the tachometer. I think I got all of the old seal out because I can see metal now. But I tried to put the new gasket in and seat the tachometer and it all doesn't fit. I looked at a diagram and it looks like there is a thrust washer that was originally supposed to go in before the gasket. It was marked as obsolete on the parts list. Does is mean it would have to be removed for the new gasket to seat correctly?  If so how do you get it out?

   Not every-one owns a 79 a picture would help alot,(I'm sure same tach many yr's)
  unless you wont to hear from only 79 owners that have the same prob.

Sorry tried to upload picture from my phone. No luck. I am not sure how much more descriptive I can be.

The end of the tach cable will not seat correctly. The tach cable will not go in all of the way so that the set bolt can be screwed in the top.

I think this might be because there is a washer that I need to take out but I am not sure that is the case. And if it is the case I do not know how to get it out.

I got it figured out.  I must have gotton some of the gasket out originally but not the whole thing.  There is a metal washer/spacer that is part of the gasket.  I purchased a codderpin remover, and after some bending and prodding got the whole thing out.  

After that the new gasket went in perfectly.  No oil leak anymore.  I posted pictures and responce to my own post because apparently no one quite knows how to get it done.  Hope it helps someone else.

Oh ok,well thanks for that. I thought you were replacing a gasket on your tachometer. didn't realize it was the seal for the tach cable. Sorry we didn't understand you.

This was one of the first things I did on my cb750 a few years back. I bought a set of dental pick tools for just such a purpose.  I'm pretty sure I had pictures and procedure posted here.

Also, you probably already know this, but there is a slot in the cable that has to line up perfectly to the flat end that sticks out of the valve cover.  If these aren't lining up then your tach won't work and you won't be able to get it back in.

Not a problem i probably didn't state it quite right.  I just wanted to be sure that a novice like myself could find how to do it and how it goes together.  The exploded axonometric online aren't really helpful for this area of the bike.
