Well, folks, I think the Avenger has given up the ghost. I don't have the time, patience, tools, or garage to put it all back together, so I'm offering it to you all first. After a few weeks, it'll go on my local Craigslist. I will get pictures up as soon as I get time to upload them somewhere. Check my other postings for details on the broken cam chain issue (back in August 2010).
Here's what I have so far:
1979 Honda CB750L (anniversary edition) DOHC parts bike for sale. Factory burgundy paint. 34000+ miles.
Selling due to broken main cam chain and lack of time and facilities to reassemble.
Bike engine is disassembled. New rings (not oversize), new rod bearings, new main bearings, rest of gasket kit. 2 new exhaust valves, rest of valves seal well. Head is disassembled: valves and keepers removed, cams show no wear, pistons look good. Cylinders are good, cases are split, and all bottom end components look good and worked well. Most internal parts are good. I have an extra used empty cylinder head. Missing a few pieces: final drive seal, oilpump
Clutch is good, alternator is good (slight damage to Molex connector), carbs have been cleaned and set to factory standards, airbox and boots are good, air filter has 2000 miles on it. Pulse generators and ignition system works well. All instruments and electrics work well.
Frame is complete: gas tank and side covers have anniversary emblems and are in good shape (some minor wear on side covers). Seat needs minor repair: cover is split near front. Gas tank has skight internal rusting. Air forks are good: no leaks. Front tire has 50% of tread, rear tire has 1500 miles on it (Bridgestone Spitfire S11 + tube). Comstar wheels and wheel bearings are good. Front chrome fender and factory 4 pipe exhaust are rust free. Front disk brake and rear drum both work well.
PM me via this forum for pricing and availability. Local pickup is preferred for the heavy pieces (frame, engine/trans, internals). I'm in central Ohio USA. If international, please contact me first to determine best shipping method. I'll have a Paypal account set up this week. Also, I travel for a living, so I may not be able to ship items on a moment's notice.
Thanks for looking.

Hmm...grab bar? I don't think mine has a grab bar. Per the pictures, the seat is more of a 2-up seat. When putting it on the center stand, I use the side of the seat, as it's bolted to the frame near the shocks.
Sorry I couldn't help.

UPDATE:
The factory exhaust runs about 25 pounds each in weight, and requires an oversize box. I'm asking $100 for the pipes, and you pay the shipping. I prefer using 2 cartons, as the pipes are in pretty good shape, and I'd rather they got there in good shape, instead of all dented and bent due to the shipping companies.
Boxes, bubble wrap and peanuts will cost about $50-60 for both cartons. You do the math. Local pickup may be cheaper. I'm in central Ohio.
The reason for this post is to more fully explain why two people have decided not to buy them. If anyone has a better way to ship these units out, please let me know. I'd love for someone who wants them to be able to get them.

One of our readers is buying the carb assembly, the charging system (alternator, cover, rectifier) and the clutch lever assembly.
Still waiting on word from Mr. Williams on the pieces he asked for.
Everything else is available. Let me know what you are interested in. Local pickup preferred.

No one else has contacted me (aside from naughty people asking me to ship them stuff while they pay by check to cover the items and the shipping...sounds like a scam to me), so I'm gonna start uploading stuff to EBay. Last chance...any takers?
Remember the heavier items may be easier to negotiate if local pickup is involved. Smaller items will be sent USPS Priority if it'll fit in the box, UPS Ground or Fed Ex Ground if larger. Let me know. Need more room in the garage for the next bike.

Hi John. Thanks for your interest.
If you haven't done so already, please check the photobucket link and see if the tank and sidecovers will meet your needs.
I've been in contact with Craig McCarthy ( local to my city ) who is interested in the whole package. We've not met up yet, but hope to this weekend. He may end up with everything, if we can agree on price. If he's not interested in the items you're looking for, we may be able to do something. Alternatively, maybe you and Craig can get together to make a deal.
Where are you geographically?

One more thing to mention:
If you look at the underside picture for the side covers, the left side cover has only one "push on" stud on it. It was held on with a cable tie when I got it. It works fine for me that way, so I leave it up to you.
Just wanting to be as upfront as possible about the items. I'd rather lose a sale than have someone on this forum think I was cheating someone.

There's another Nabble forum member is also asking about those parts, and he and I have been trading emails for a couple of weeks now.
Man, this is getting confusing. Luke M

The carb assembly and the charging system will be gone in a few days, and if we can arrange the schedule, the rest of the bike will be gone tomorrow..
Thanks for all your attention.
