1979 cb750 stalling problems

scottyfrench1977
k. so ive been battling this for a little while. the bike seems to run great as long as i am not sitting to long in traffic, going too slow, and especially not have a second rider. when these things do happen, though, the bike will stall at idle, and i have to pull over and wait. it seems to get better, when i adjust the air/fuel mixture screws out, as it seems to make it run cooler, but it will still happen eventually. i run the highest octane fuel. is that bad? the other thing i notice when its running hot, is that the clutch will "rattle". this is when i know that it is going to stall soon. and to get into first, i have to rev extra high. any ideas?

Sounds like your carbs and jets need to be cleaned and sync'd.  Your pilot jets should be turned out about 1.5 turns as a starting point. The clutch will chatter a little that was a thing with the older cb's.  And you might also need to adjust your idle positioning screw to increase your rpm to be around 1000 rpms at idle
