1981 CB750 Custom Brakes Issue

Wagonpeddler
So glad I found this forum! I have had some front brake squealing for a while, and brakes don't seem to release from the disc. Thought the calipers were frozen...so I removed the calipers, cleaned them, and sprayed some lube around the piston. Now they REALLY lock tight. Pistons move freely. Retracted the pistons to re-install calipers on the forks, and they just sprang back out. I was able to install OK. I did NOT disassemble the calipers. How do I resolve this? Air in the lines? Will bleeding help?
Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Bleeding will not cure your problem. First, you need to find out if it is the caliper, or the master cylinder sticking. When the break is stuck on, loosen the bleeder. If the break does not release it is the piston in the caliper stuck, or the mount where the caliper slides. If it releases it is the master cylinder. There are two small holes in the reservoir. One is to release the break fluid back into it when the lever is let off. Some times cleaning the holes will make it work.

One more question before I do this. Knowing that the reservoir must me kept full, are these holes easy to spot? Best way to clean them?

Thanks again

I bled the brakes yesterday. They don't seem to stick anymore...a good thing. However, you really need to pull the lever hard to get them to grab. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Re-build the master cylinder, and install braided stainless steel break lines.

Re-building the master cylinder is very easy. You will need a pair of long nosed snap ring pliers though. I bought a pair from vintagecb750.com when I bought my re-build kit. They were $10.00. Here is a video showing how to re-build one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W24asyNujs

Yes, I watched that video before. Can the master be re-built on the bike, or does it need to be removed? If so, any special instructions on REMOVING the master cylinder to rebuild?
Thanks.
