Cnabble_img src="IMG_2133.jpg" border="0"/> checking picture . This is a picture of my 1981 CB750C
custom that I wanted to change from original stock look. I started by rebuilding carbs-changing out the huge tail light, and turn signals for smaller after market. I sent my rotors to a machine shop to have rotors drilled becase I could not afford the expensive $200.00 rotors. I put on moto cross handle bars with 2" roxy risers, and shaved the seat foam down for low profile look. Green paint some people either like or hate but is from a 1954 gull wing Mercedes benz. The bike had to much bling "chrome" so I painted fenders and exhaust with black. all the aluminum was hand polished and took to much time.
Thanks for letting me post picture !!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum. Cool bike I like the green. My Grand father had 5 green motorcycles shot out from under him in WWII Green is supposed to be unlucky on motorcycles. This was started by the soldiers after WWII. They did not want to have anything green around them anymore. But green must have been lucky for my Grandpa.

Thanks for the comment I love the cafe style bike you have. I was going for the cafe ' and I was afraid once I bent down to ride. I would be stuck in that position. I like the flat black paint.

I totally understand the fear of getting stuck in the cafe position. I like to take my son, and son in law's sport bikes for rides But they are short rides . I lean more towards the sport cruiser style which your bike lends it's self well to. The older bikes are easier to cafe. they do not have the slope in the backbone like your bike.
What kind of paint did you use on the exhaust, and how did you prep it?

Super nice ride. I love the pipes.
|
|
I have had some people say" how can you take a nice set of chrome pipes and paint them" I tell them with good sand paper !!!!!!!!!!!! I do have to repaint at the beginning of each year. The paint is perfect during the riding season but when sits in garage all winter starts to flake. It cost $20.00 for some heat paint
Rust-Oleum ultra-this is the only heat paint that comes in a simi-gloss finish-most stove paints are flat black. I sand blasted the pipes this time instead of sand papering the pipes, I am hoping to gain a year
and not having to paint but every other year. The fenders were chrome and have lasted 3 years and still look great. Hot Coat, ceramic coat, I have heard people still have problems with their coating flaking of after a couple of years and. I hate to pay that kind of price to have it flake off. The weird part is the paint never flakes were the most heat is generated at the pipes were they come out of the engine. The sand blasting looks to have really done a good job at etching the chrome so that the paint can adhere better
to the pipes. I will let you know by next winter how they did. !!!!!!!!!
Thanks for comment.

To paint the chrome sand with medium grade and make pipes look like dull silver or gray. Buy rust-oleum
HIGH HEAT SATIN which I used, or flat black, temperture rating 1200 degrees with picure of barbque grill on front of can. After sanding wipe with alcohol " Do not Drink" paint when at least 70 degrees out, put on thin
coats of paint do not hurry, wait and hour in between coats do 3 or 4 "THIN" coats The pipes will not look like rattle can paint job if you take your time. I waited couple of days before putting back on bike. Wrap your pipes with plastic trash bags or something to protect from scratching paint. I ran the bike for about 15 minutes, then let cool. Ride 20 minutes let cool, this helps to cure paint. Now this method worked for me . The paint does start to flake after a year and might be able to touch up by leaving on bike, but I am
kind of anul and like to redo every year. I mentioned in a earlier reply that I have sand blasted the pipes this year and hope the paint last mabey 2 or 3 years. Remember chrome is hard to paint, but oter methods can be expensive and you may still have to redo paint. The method I used on fenders was a little different
and they look great after 3 years., but paint is not exposed to constant heat. I have sent pictures of exhaust before and, after paint.

"everything but cb750s" and it brought me back to this site, how do you get from cb750's to "everything but 750"s" ???????? I did not check the post out much, but it still seemed that every question was still about cb 750. !!!!!!!!!!!!! Am I confusing you yet !!! I have a site if that you may want to check out a lot of different bikes here is the link. Icould no paste in link Tools 1. type in "custom fighters" it has page after page of pictures of cool bikes. I'm sorry Kramit I confused you. I have been on other sites where every post that does not pertain to their certain subject is deleted. Although we on this forum put Honda CB 750s first. We still are interested in other bikes, and our forum brother's projects.
If you look at the topics on the site here you will see one with a header saying "Everything but CB 750s". That is what I was referring to. Your other bikes are more then welcome in that section. If you want just start a new thread, and I will move it to the right section for you.
Sorry to hear about your brother. I know it is hard to lose a family member so young.
I would love to check out your site, and will do a search for it. Is this the right site?
