73 750 intermittent starter ??

Okay, some times you hit the button and it whirs away happy. Next time,all sluggish. I have replaced starter and dressed up relay points. Is this a handlebar switch issue ? The other 73 is all happy now thanks to the many responders.

Could be the starter button is dirty. Might need to pull the housing apart and clean it.
The solenoid could be getting iffy. You could jumper the contacts and see how the starter spins. Do this a few times and see how it goes. If each time is nice and strong, then the solenoid is going bad.
After this, I would look at the battery being a possible issue.
