75 CB750 Tach Oil Seal issue w/Pics!!!

harsh94blu
Hello All... Thank you for all your help last post.. although its been a while since i have posted, im hoping to be more active now that i have learned a whole lot of the CB750. I will be posting pics of the build soon.

Im down to finishing the motor, the one on my avatar, but the "Tach Oil Seal" is a bit of a concern. I bought a polished valve cover and tried removing the seal and noticed it was hard so i did something i knew i shouldnt have.. and started banging on the seal from behind to remove it. well it didnt just pop out, there is an extra metal ring in there????

My original valve cover does not have this ring??? So i picked out the seal and its a tiny seal wedged between the valve cover and a metal ring and the seal itself has a little spring type o ring????

the seal that i have for it is a solid piece and it should have just slid right in... now im confused??? anyone have any experience with this? Do i need to get a different seal? does the little metal ring come out? is the cover not really a 75 cover as they stated? Please help... I have included the new and old seal and an angle for you to see that extra ring in the valve cover where the seal meets the tach cable.

Thanks guys!

Sorry, but the only thing I can tell you, is that the seal on the right is a cheaply made seal.

"why does it look different?" Because it (the seal on the right) is a cheaply made seal. Smear a THIN layer of silicon gasket sealer on the outside of the seal, and shove it down into the hole. Use a deepwell socket to push it down until it seats against the bottom.

Well after a lot of searching and prodding it.. That was the remaining metal part of the seal... I soaked it with WD40 and then banged it out with a punch from the back of the valve cover... It finally came out.. Thanks for the help, the new seal is in and hopefully working as it should!
