75K Running Rich

katman
Katman here, Enjoying my 75 rebuild. Just came back from my longest ride yet. This is waht my plugs look like. 105 main, 40 pilot jet, floats at 26mm. Clip in needle was down from center. It is in the center now.
From what I found out these are stock jets for this year. New intake boots and stock aircleaner and exhaust.  Stumbles just a tad at low speed but pulls thru the gears great and good at cruising speed.
I noticed the old plugs were the same when I pulled them out and started this rebuild. Any suggestions.

It does not look like oil, only carbon,so should definitely be a rich condition only. Where are your idle mixture screws set? Maybe turn them in 1/2 turn at a time and look again?

Thanks Shiny, Idle screws are out 1 turn right now. It's definately soot on the plugs not oil. Should I still go in some.

It depends on what type of idle mixture screws you have. Some are solid tipped and others have holes in the tips. My soild tipped bike runs good at 1.5 turns out and the bike with holes in the tips runs good at 5/8 turn out. Out is richer-in is leaner. Exactly opposite of cars and confuses me constantly

To be honest, a 40 pilot seems big to me. But if the FSM calls for that then I guess it's right. I'm running 40 and 42 pilots on my bikes, but they are both running open exhaust. I have a set of 35 pilots you can try if you want. You are running roundtops, right?

Thanks Shiny,
may take you up on the pilot jets. So do I need to try out or in right now
on my airscrews. They are out 1 turn. Round Top carbs, solid tips on the screws.
