78 K rear wheel

Silverride
I have a 78 K with a rear wheel problem.  One of the main wheel bearing had a burr or somthing and when I tried to remove the rear axle I had to beat it out of the bearing which scored the axle. The axle is no longer avalible from my dealer or most of the parts house online.  I don't think I should used the scored axle with the new bearing.  Looking for a source for a axle or advice on using the old one.   How tight does the axle to bearing fit suppose to be?

Just file any burrs off the axle, and sand it smooth. The bearings are not supposed to be a perfect press on fit, and are clamped from moving by tightening the axle nut. Also when you reinstall it, try greasing it, or put anti-seize on it, so it will not stick next time.
