In your guys experience, do you think there is any chance I can squeek through an emissions and safety inspection by using a patch kit from autozone on the exhaust?   I hate to order a new exhaust, or those pricey slip ons,  just to park it.  With college football going full steam and the NFL regular season starting this week, cold weather will be coming this way soon.

I'd say depends on the state and inspector,
I have a modified tractor muff on mine with a H.D. chrome cover heat shield would pass any inspection.
This I do know in California Some will look for California cert. stamp on muffs. So like I said depends on state N such.

Don't know about inspections, but muffler tape is inexpensive, available at any auto parts store.  Wrap the holes in 2-3 layers, going all the way around the muffler.  It will last 1-2 seasons, depending upon how many miles you wrack up.  Cheers!

I think I will give it a shot.  I don't have a clue how picky the inspector might be at the local cycle shop, but getting a couple weeks of riding and waiting until spring on the pipes would ease the budget some.

I wrapped the mufflers with sheet aluminum and some exhaust clamps.  Thought I was ready for inspection, and the petcock failed with fuel running everywhere and no way to shut it off.  Got a funnel and a can and saved most of that precious stuff.  Finally got that taken care of, but no fuel to no 1.  Anyways,  finally got it all sorted, got the old girl inspected and registered,  and put an easy 30 on her.  I was wearing an old open faced DOT approved helmet from 79, and some wise guy pulled up and told me when you go retro, you go all the way!   bahahaha.. yeah... that's me... stuck in the 70's
