79 F Fork seals

Beekeeper
I've been looking at the threads here and looking at the manual.  Tools MIA build thread shows a couple good pics, and I have my wipers and seals.  Everything I read seems to indicate the DOHC bikes take a little more effort to get the sliders off.  So, figuring I get that far, get my seal in and am attempting to put the slider back on.  How do you protect the seal from being damaged as you sort of force it back over the fork tube?  I was hoping to do this without taking the forks out of the triple tree, and it looks like it should be possible.  But looking for a bit of guidance here before I get in too deep.

The DOHC sliders come off JUST LIKE THE SOHC sliders. The only difference is, you must have the dust boot installed into the slider before installing it back onto the fork tube. To protect the seals while installing the slider onto the fork tube, just lube it with ATF.
