80 750F Electrical Issues -Bad Rotor..

Half-Caf
So, I went a little deeper into my electrical problems tonight. Following cheesehead's thread, I'm 99% certain that the issue is with the rotor. My stator looked good when I tested it with the ohm meter and the battery is new, so I think I can rule that out. When I checked the rotor with the ohm meter, I got absolutely nothing.

However, I did notice a couple things when I took off the stator cover. First, I saw some small bits of cable shielding fall out. And second, I noticed that the copper wire from the coil had a loose end. Could either of these be an issue?

Whatever the case, looks like I need a new rotor. I saw a bunch on ebay for 70's cb's, but I am not sure how compatible they are. Any buying tips or places I should check out?

You need one from a 70-83 model. I would recommend ebay, or post on the forum that, you need one.

Hmm, looks like the end plate with the two copper rings is not actually part of the rotor? Is that right?
Most of the ones I've found on ebay do not include this. Should I try to replace the whole thing as a package?

I have not done much with the DOHC models, but I think that is all one assembly.

If you need the honda tool that separates the rotor from the crankshaft so you can remove it, let me know. I'll mail it to you and you can mail it back. It's just a little bolt looking thing that you screw on a couple turns WITH THE BIKE IN GEAR and whack with a hammer.

Well that's very kind of you, but I already picked one up a while back.
Currently waiting for my new rotor and rectifier / regulator to come in the mail.

If you'd like to see my progress, check out my build thread.

By the way, I see you're in the tri-state area. I am living in Chicago now, but I grew up in Erie, PA

That's cool, I took the kids up to splash lagoon in Erie last summer and had a blast. I'm actually pretty far south in Steubenville, though, just west of Pittsburgh. Ya, I think I paid $17 for it and I'll probably never use it again, lol.
