Howdy, I have a 81 750c DOHC with 25k miles, stock airbox and filter. 4 into 2 exhaust with Cobra mufflers.
a couple of months ago I had a really hard time getting it to idle normally (it wanted to run at either 3k or not at all). I saw the carb boots had cracks so i was going to replace them when I found a rebuilt carb for an 81 750c with boots on ebay for $120. I installed the rebuilt carb with the new boots. and put new ngk plugs in. Now it idles fine.
3 Problems:
1) I always have to start it with the choke on no matter how warm it is outside. Recently, it has been 75+ degrees outside and I still have to use the choke. Once it warms up its fine.
2) It backfires occasionally when warming up. The exhaust smoke isn't black or sooty. I figure the old carb (which I still have) was jetted for the 4 into 2 cobra exhaust?
3) I am only getting 22mpg!
Where should I go from here? Put the old carb on? Swap out the jets? How do I "sync" the carbs?
