81 cb900 custom trans slip.

Barn Biker
First gear skips in and out. I've heard something about a plate with 3 teeth.  Apparently, I have missing teeth on this plate.  Every other gear is fine.  Anyone know anything about this plate?   And can tell me what and where it is?

I have never heard of this being a common problem before. You could have a bent shift fork. However what you are describing as a plate with 3 teeth sounds like a gear with 3 dogs on it. If this is what it is, you will need to split the cases to get to it. Luckily you do not need to remove the top end to do this, just turn the engine over to split the cases. You might want to look up the parts fich at partzilla to see how the transmission is laid out.
