82 seat pan question

ETFerguson
Hey guys I'm moving my 82' 750k into my shop for the winter soon and tearing her apart. Hopefully I'll have something that resembles a cafe of my dreams by spring. Second thing on the go is the seat. After being heartbroken by the price of seats out there I've decided to do my own. Mine is in perfect shape so I want to make my seat pan a bit smaller if need be and carve my existing foam into a cafe look, then have it re-upholstered. Questions:

1. Do I need to cut my seat pan down? I don't know how wide the average cafe seat would be in comparison to the regular setup on these bikes. It's the k model so it has the passenger bump. Sorry no pics to share in my phone right this second.
2. Am I dreaming to think I can shave my foam down into a nicely shaped seat and re-cover it? I have an excellent leather worker and tailor friend who I know could make a beautiful job of the cover and stitching.

Thanks! I can't wait to put pictures up once this gets underway!

ET, before you cut up that perfectly good seat I might have a seat that you could use for your cafe project.  This seat has "Honda" on it.  It is a 2 bump seat with a plastic pan.  I don't want much for it ether.  Since I don't know what bike this is off of and need to match up the connection hardware, can you post a picture of the seat your going to cut up?

Wow that would be amazing of you to do that! I'm up in Canada, I don't know how much the shipping would be. When I get home I'll post a picture. Do you need to see the seat pan too to see where the bolts are on it?

If, for some reason, birdman's seat doesn't work, do not cut up your pan or foam. The pan can stay the way it is, just get new foam and cut it how you want it. You might find that a cafe seat sucks and you can easily go back if you keep the old foam.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Truck
Depending on how adventurious you want to be you could also try making a fiberglass pan then mold your foam any way you like it.
It's only illegal if you get caught.

If at first you don't succeed, use more lighter fluid
