I'm about 1/3 the way through this project. I thought I share some of the info in case it can help someone else. I glean tips from various sites, so when I found this site and its various member projects, I thought I'd join and start the mining.
Here are some of the details on my bike: 1984 CB700SC
Goal: Update the bike with modern brake and handling (suspension) changes but make the changes look factory.
Changes:
Handling - wheels: 2010 Honda NT700V. They match up to the left side shaft/final drive and put 17" wheels front and back.
- tires: Michelin Pilot 3 so I have modern radial tires
- front forks: 2001 VTR1100 Superhawk fork lowers, custom length 41mm stanchions (OEM 39mm stanchions are really long) with 1996 VFR750 cartridges so I have preload and rebound adjustment
- rear shocks: 1999 Kawasaki (KYB) KZX1100 shocks, 4 levels of rebound and compression damping
Brakes - front: 2003 VTR1100 Superhawk 4 pot fixed calipers, custom spacers, 316mm ST1100 discs with ebc pads coming. SS brakelines front and rear.
- rear: 2001 Triumph TROPHY 1200 rear caliper and axle bracket on CBR1100XX Blackbird rear 256mm disc
I'm currently sorting out the suspension to get the rake and trail right. Then, on to the cosmetic changes.
