84 CB750

Mauserman
Hello all,

Firstly, I want to say nice forum. Interesting reading about technical stuff from various sources.

I have recently bought a '84 CB750 FD, with really low mileage of 16000 for it's age. I believe it is genuine as the bike is really in good condition and paperwork is sound. Runs really well, its just that when starting, it appears to struggle sparking on 1 cylinder until warmed up then is really smooth. Smells slightly rich with small amounts of blueish smoke, particularly from the right exhaust, but once warmed up it is barely noticeable. I have changed the plugs and the old ones did have a oily residue. I am thinking valve stem seals need replacing, even though mileage is low, due to the seal compound hardening after so many years.

Do valve seals require replacing due to age?

Thanks and cheers,

Do yourself a favor and get the Viton ones from jebby on this forum. He gives a good deal and they're much better than stock.
