Almost all together. Do I need to put gas in carb?

DW
1978 Honda CB750k
I have her all back together (after taking engine out, new rings, camchain, etc) and have a question. Do i need to fill the carbs up with gas at all, or does that simply happen when I reinstall the gas tank????  Thanks!

Should just happen, just like when you run out of fuel or forget to turn the petcock to on.

Congralations on the engine rebuild!  I hope you took pictures, and are willing to share them with the rest of us.  There's been lots of talk about the rebuilding process.  Any info you can share would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what sort of shape your tank is in wrt rust.  Now would be a good time to visit that, de-rust it, and seal the inside with Kreem or POR-15.  If it's in good shape, disregard this part of the message.

RE: the carbs. It's a gravity feed system for the CB750.  Put fuel in tank, switch petcock to ON, wait a couple of minutes, and you should be good.  One way to check would be to open up one of the drain screws on one of the carburetors, and verify that fuel comes out.  On some of the DOHC 750s, there's a fuel manifold valve that only actuates when the engine is producing vacuum.  It's a safety valve (literally) should the bike go down and the engine not stop.

That's a shame, I've just rebuilt a 1974 from the ground up.  I could have photographed the whole thing.  Two things I would mention.  Don't forget the cam chain tensioner when assembling and remember the cam assembly cannot be undertaken until the head has been torqued down.
