Almost had a head-on with a cager!

Cabreco

So today some bimbo in a car drove in the exit only ramp at the bank while she was obliviously yappin' on her cell.
Almost hit me on the motorcycle head on. I called her a moron & told her to get off her cell!
She rolled down her window & gave me an attitude filled a non convincing "sor~ry".
I replied "it's a damn exit not an entrance!", & started to go around her... well her reply?,
"Well duh!"
I stopped still, directly in front of her dropped my kickstand & told her to BACK OUT cuz I'm not moving! Would you believe she said "I'm calling the police."
I said "back out or call the cops your choice" So...cops get there, our vehicles are face to face & she's facing the wrong way. Cop started writing her tickets(s) plural <lol> I counted at least 3. My guess is crossing a double yellow line, driving the wrong way, & dangerous action. Cop told me to go & be safe, I thanked him.
I look at the bimbo on my way out, smiled & said..."Y'all have a nice day!"

Dude you're my hero! I work at a bank and almost get in accidents everyday (in my car) going into an entrance only side, while everybody from either our parking lot or one of the ones connected will try to exit out of this side! Mind you there is no room for 2 cars to squeeze through as there is barely enough room for all of our drive thru lanes....

Dude that is awesome.  Way to stand your ground.  I find it hilarious that SHE was the one who called the cops.

I'm sure your heart was pounding pretty good when it started.  Nice that you didn't lash out, stood your ground (literally), and won in the end.  I'm not sure I would have done that, but you must have thought this person needed a lesson.

I think the issue is people are just not paying attention.  I sat behind a car at a green light for 15 seconds, while the young lady in the car touched up her makeup and hair.  I beeped once, she looked in the mirror, and went back to preening.  I beeped again, twice more.  Then she got busy with driving, and took off.

I see this kind of stupidity/ignorance, and all I do is shake my head. It's all I can do.

EXCELLENT!

Crappy that you nearly got hit though. I'm betting she won't change her tune, either. :/

The one this I can attribute to her waking up was me blasting Fiona's horns.
I replaced the stock unit with a late 90 early 2000 Lincoln Continental Fiamm horn set. Painfully load, even with a helmet on.

Ah, human pride, ain't it something.  They are wrong but will die before admitting it.

My pet peeve is when some uneducated schmuck hogs the passing lane.  I've learned to just use my bike's handling and small profile to just pass them in between lanes.

Too dangerous for me to ride that way.

I don't like putting my life into the hands of some random car driver who isn't paying attention and could easily drift within their lane to hit me.

Its also considered stunt riding in Ontario and if the cops catch you there is a good chance you won't see your bike again and you'll have a few thousand in fines to deal with.

Lane splitting is actually considered safer than sitting in traffic.

Not that I would do it. I will ride on a shoulder if I see my exit up ahead, but that's about it. At least, for now.

That's a good article.  I think it makes the most sense when traffic is either stopped or very slow.  I split lanes all the time when I get to a red light and there's a line of cars in front of me.  On the other hand, splitting lanes for passing through 50 mph traffic like I first posted is, granted, a little nuts.

When I get to the front of the line at the red light, it is very common for one driver at the front of the line to start inching forward to prevent me from getting away first on green.  This used to piss me off but I now just completely ignore them since the bike has enough guts to just shoot past them when the green lights up.  Other times, when they accidentally left enough space in front of them for me to fit, I just take up the entire lane in front while waiting for the light.  I don't do this much, though, because if somebody gets extremely proud I have a feeling they'll pound on their gas to knock me off before I have a chance to react.

As for the legality of it.. well..  I can bet if you ask a cop here about "Lane-splitting" he'll just give you a blank stare since that's not something they look for in traffic.

I wish they would allow it in FL.  I gets bloody hot here and sitting in traffic can be brutal.

Here is a wikipedia article that pretty much says it makes no difference on accident rates.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_splitting

Interesting.

Wikipedia isn't always the best source of info, but there are some good links to studies in the references if you want to go deeper.

Lane splitting for collision avoidance is actually taught in motorcycle courses here in Ontario.  I don't think anyone argues with that.

Yeah, but as an everyday technique it endangers everyone. Example of last summer, I was in my van, passing a couple of slower vans, they were only doing 100kph, I was doing 120kph. Pretty much out of nowhere some mush-head on a crotch rocket split between us at I'm guessing 150-160. Scared the mellow out of the really old guy I was passing and he had trouble keeping it straight. Just as he was getting it back under control, two more screamed between us. When I checked my mirror there were three more behind me with brains enough to wait until I finished passing.

Lane splitting may be OK in daytime gridlock, but at highway speeds it 's just plain stupid.
