Am I crazy, or just stupid?

18Bravo
So, I really love the tanks on the CB500T. So much so I'm buying them for other builds. Good news:  Front mounts fit perfectly. Bad news:  Tank interferes with different style frame.
Solution?  Uh, beat the tank walls in until it fits? What say you all?

I think it'll look far better than the stock tank when level. Of course cafe seat will go on as well:

And here's the crux of the problem:

Of course the petcock is in the way too , so I'll simply plug it and drill a hole for a new one.

A little heat, and a big hammer should fix it.

I wasn't even sure if I'd use heat. To bash knee indents in no heat is required. But now you have me thinking...  (better make sure there's no gas residue in it!)

You are going to be moving a lot more metal then you would knocking knee dents. Just wash the tank out with dish soap, and hot water. You will be OK.

Cut the outer skin off the 500 tank and weld it to the base of the 750 tank? I know whatta buncha work that would be, but moving that much old metal might be hard to do without ripping it.

Definitely interested to see your results either way!

I actually thought of that, but I'm not sure my welding skills are up to it yet, and I want to do all the work myself. I do plan to do something somewhat similar with the CB500T you can just see in the background. The tank has a JB Weld repair in the rear that I dont trust.  I think I may cut the innards out of the rear, block it off, and use the new rear "compartment to stash a small battery.  As it's kick start only a small battery should ssuffice. That's the tentative plan anyway.,

I have tanks that have been repaired with JB Weld several years ago that are still doing good.

The tank on the water buffalo that I got from Tools had a screw in the emblem that was too long and had poked a hole in the tank. Not his fault, of course. Anyway, I had a full tank in there when I discovered it. To plug the drip I mixed up some JB and mashed it on there real quick. Rust, gas oozing out and everything. Never gave a bit of trouble.

I know of one carb with a float bowl stanchion that is JB'd on. Another with a JB'd main jet tower. Two with bowl overflow tubes JB'd ( both mine).

Gas doesn't phase JB one bit.

My Virago had a carb with a crack on the intake side. Little JB Weld and she was good to go. Never had a problem.
