Any machinists on this board???

i just picked up this machine over the weekend..yes i know its old,but it still works..i know how to turn the machine on..thats about it.anyone here have experience with valve facing machines?can you help me out or point me in the right direction on how to set this machine up?..anyone have a source on how to find out the year and modle of the machine and where i can find an original (or copy) ownwers manuel?

Cool looking machine.  I bet it still works as good now as it did back then. It's even got a line for putting coolant or cutting oil on the work.  That's neat.

Look for patent number(s).  Usually the highest number will get you with 5-10 years of the date of manufacture. My first guess would be 1930s.  Google would be your best source of info on that.  Engine rebuilder shops may have some info. I doubt you'd find a manual on it.  But the "old guy" in a shop may be able to tell you something about it.

Looks a bit dangerous with that open belt. They didnt worry too much about H & S back in the day!

hey thanks!yeah its got a bunch of oil caps all over it.

30s huh?..my bud said he thought it was 50's..doesnt matter i guess..its still old as fuck..

im guna start doing some more research on this thing next week.i was helping my bud with a bike yesterday and guna help out more tomorrow.hopfully get it fired up..then i gotta work on that cm 250 i just got..hoping to get that fired up this weekend too..

theres only one engine bullder around me that messes with old stuff and hes hard to understand..and i dont really trust him...i got to watch him run the boring bar though...

The part that looks like a drill chuck holds the valve by the stem and then you just crank it into the grinding stone. Just set yo angle and go with it.You'll figure it out,they're not too bad. Just keep an eye that the stone stays flat. They really need to be dressed fairly often to do right.
