Not all 69 CB 750's were sandcast. Only about the first 7000. The engine cases will have a rough texture to them. Also, you can check the serial number on the engine. As to what they are worth. That depends on how much, you want, and how much someone (with the money) is willing to pay. I have a die-cast K-O engine (also 69 model) and it would take at least $1500 for me to part with it.

Your tank, in ok shape would be worth a pretty penny to some people too it is the original wrinkle tank.

I was just curious as to what this means. Never heard that term before.

Wrinkle tank-early tank that held more gas.First 14,000 +/- bikes only had them. Wrinkles in the bottom panel are visible thru the filler cap.
thats all I found.apparently some of them can go for as much as $3K Pat,if you see wrinkles in that tank i sent you.....dont tell me.Deal?

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/features/122_0401_1969_honda_cb750/viewall.htmlUnofficially, the first CB is called the K0--"K-zero"--to distinguish it from the '70 K1 model. Here's another distinction: The first 7000 engines came with crankcases cast in gravity molds. After that, those grainy "sand-cast" cases were superseded by smooth, pressure-cast pieces. Power was a problem on the early engines; there was too much of it. Those 68 horses ate relatively fragile late-'60s chains, tossing the remains through the crankcases and wreaking all manner of havoc. Many crankcases were replaced under warranty--with smooth, pressure die-cast items, of course. You're beginning to get the picture. All of which means a genuine, sand-cast '69-spec CB750 is rare enough to make any bike collector drool. And we're here to watch one man build a brand-new bike from real, honest-to-gosh Honda parts, almost exactly as it would have rolled off the assembly line at Honda's Hamamatsu factory in '69

You can always get a fresh built completely period correct sandcast for 20 some thousand!

The wrinkles are in the area right under the filler cap. The humped part of the tank that goes over the backbone.

Wrinkles under the filler cap from the manufacturing process. Dimples needed for carb slide clearance due to added fuel capacity.I retyped this cuz my fonts are funky and hard to read...and I dont know how to change them. I wonder why Honda changed away from these tanks? Extra fuel is always a good thing?

the tank you sent me does have some wrinkles and dimples...i know you said you dont wana know if it is,but i think we should confirm..what im planning on doing to the tank would destroy the value if it was wrinkle tank..ill post some pics later..sorry for high jacking.

Haha! i was just kidding,Pat. I'm pretty sure that's not a rare tank, but you never know. Apparently, the four dimple is the rarest and most expensive, but there is another 2 dimple tank that has the wrinkles, too.
Best i can tell at least.

Before the "sandcast" term and website arose all the 1969-70 parts were reasonable.
Now all 1969 parts are more expensive.

Sorry to be a bit of a killjoy, but there is no such thing as a sand cast Honda 750 –these crankcases never went anywhere near a grain of sand when they were made :!: -
How do I know?
A long while ago, Honda made their first batch of 750s which they tried to make quickly as they had heard Kawasaki was making a 4 cylinder bike, so they used a process of making diecast crankcases PDQ, that was speedier than the normal method of making the normal run of the mill diecasts, I forgot what this method was called. The result was a set of crankcases that was rough on the outside, then some dude, who should have known better, said they look sandcast-which stuck for the first batch of a couple of thousand 750s. Kawasaki dicided to sit back and see if Honda would sell their 750s, and missed the boat, so increased the engine to 901cc.
This entire story was printed in the Honda book first out in the 1970s.
There was a discussion on the now closed Honda Owners forum, that even the person whocalled himself ” the Doctor” was unaware of this information-sandcast is thicker than die-cast.
The fact that the “sandcast” name has stuck has meant that the gullible public have been paying premium prices for something that never saw a grain of sand :!:

Thanks for bringing this thread back and clearing this up. However I am sure this method you speak of "so they used a process of making diecast crankcases PDQ, that was speedier than the normal method of making the normal run of the mill diecasts, I forgot what this method was called. The result was a set of crankcases that was rough on the outside," would be the use of sand molds to make castings.
