At a stand still/ Engine not starting-HELP Please

dllewis5
I own a 1980 CB750c about a month ago i ordered a used carburetor to put onto the bike. Since the previous set was leaking  pretty bad(even though I was able to get the bike started with that set). After receiving the new carb and unsuccessfully starting the bike with this set, I replaced all the jets and needle's with brand new parts. I had to replace some drain screws and even some float bowls to get it properly working. Anyway I'm having a very hard time getting the bike started with this new set of carbs and would like some advice as to what to  check to get her going.

I have checked all the spark plugs and checked for spark, everything is good with that. The carburetor does not leak any gas and gas seems to be flowing fine from the tank to the carb.  The bike turns over good(as I had fixed my starter clutch issue). I am just stuck at the moment as to what to try next.

All advise is greatly appreciated.

p.s. ill try to get a video posted of whats happening.

Check to see if your spark plugs are wet with gas. If you have compression, and spark, all you would need is gas.

Ive checked the plugs, and one out of the three were wet..Ive cleaned them up, still getting nothing.
I even tried starting her with some starter fluid sprayed around the air filters, with no change at all.

Since you are only getting gas on one plug, I am going to say your carbs are plugged up, or the gas is not getting into the carbs. You need to remove the pilot jets, and clean the pilot circuits. To do this, you will need to fish a small wire through the circuit. Also try opening your drain screws, and check to see if gas comes out of the drains.

Hey Tools,

Thank for the advice, so I ended up draining the gas tank to find out that the gas that was in it had some water inside of it, which is probably part of the reason of it not starting. In emptying out the tank i noticed the coloration w=of the gas was kind of brownish and started to hear something shaking around inside it. Turns out my gas tank has some rust inside of it, which would defiantly be why the bike isn't starting. So I've drained all of the bowls out, and ended up finding a good deal on ebay  for a 1982 honda nighthawk gas tank. Im just not entirely sure if it will be a perfect fit for my bike bike(1980 honda cb750c)??

p.s. Ill be getting some new gas and will be cleaning the carbs out AGAIN.

Fit an inline filter too. You don't want to go through all that again for the sake of a few particles of rust.
