It was an awesome day here in Kansas City. I went to the BEST bike show ever. It was the Vintage Iron show 3rd annual show and swap meet. This year they put it on in the West Bottoms (the cool old part of KC.) I took my buddy Dennis Bobber I just finished it (he is on vacation at Cape Hatteras NC) so he was not able to go. Every one loved the Triumph XS 650
There were a lot of neat bikes there.
I noticed this woman checking the bike out. She asked me if she could photograph it for "Wide Open" (I guess it is some sort of bike magazine) and I said "sure."
They had some trials guys put on a show.
Then they announced they were having some races. I thought what the hell, and entered the under 900cc class. There were a couple Triumphs, some dirt bikes, a hoped up Yamaha RD 350, and a Harley flat head 45. Now I knew if I was on the toolmatic I would have this race won hands down, but I was riding Dennis Triumph XS 650
which I had just gotten running, and only rode it around the block a few times, but I have been riding for
__ __ years, and have developed some mad riding skills. I lined up with the other bikes, and when the hanky fell, we were off. I focused on the my line, I had to play with that lever on the left side of the handlebar
to keep the bike straight, but with my mad riding skills I made it to the Finnish line and was declared THE WINNER.
Then later, they gave out the awards. Now there were some nine bikes there, so I did not expect to win anything.
But when they got to the Japanese class, they announced me as 3rd place. Funny though, because I had entered custom.
And they thought it was a Triumph.
However what was really cool, was that another buddy who I had help build his 1078 CB 400, won 2nd place Japanese.
First place Japanese went to a Suzuki with the rotary engine that looked like it just rolled off the showroom floor.
One of the guys putting on the event did tell me that the bike placed 5th in the custom class, but they really liked it, and moved it to the Japanese class so it could win an award.
After I got back to the toolshack, and put the Triumph XS 650
to bed I went for a ride on the toolmatic.
Now this is where it gets interesting. Around 9:00 I thought I would ride over the Southwest Blvd to have some Mexican food, and as I was riding by Kemper Arena, I saw what looked like a car show. I turned around and went to check it out. It was like a scene from the Fast and Furious movies, tuner cars, and smoking hot girls.
The HOT girl at the gate let me in for 1/2 price because I was on a bike.
I pulled in and parked, and before I got my helmet off, guys were coming up and checking out the toolmatic. Most of them knew what the bike was.
Everyone was really cool, and I got an education on turbochargers before making it back to the entrance where the stripper pole was set up, and the girls were doing their thing.
(Sorry I did not get any pictures, I left my camera at home.

I like vintage bikes because they take me away from the clutter of technology that I work with everyday and back to a simpler time of mechanical elegance and simplicity.. "ninadm"
