BATTERY AND CARB ??

CHAS750C
I JUST GOT A 82 CB750C YESTERDAY I WAS TOLD THE RECTIFIER WAS NEW BUT THE STATOR NEEDS CHANGED, THE BATT WONT CHARGE. DOES THIS SOUND RIGHT? AM I GOING TO HAVE TO SINK A BUNCH OF MONEY INTO THE BIKE? ALSO AS I WAS CLEANING THE BIKE I TURNED THE PETCOCK FROM RES TO TANK, 10-15 MINS LATER I NOTICE FUEL ON THE FLOOR THERE IS A HOSE GOING TO THE BOTTOM OF EACH CARB AND THE FUEL WAS BUBBLING FROM ONE OF THEM, KIND OF LIKE IT WAS PURGING THE SYSTEM. IS THIS NORMAL? THE BIKE HAS NOT BEEN RUNNING SINCE YESTERDAY IM NEW TO HONDA'S THANKS FOR THE HELP

for starters welcome to the forum and to cb's. If you have a multimeter you can pretty easily check all of those systems. For starters check the battery to see if it is up to snuff (thats easy it just needs to hold a charge.) Next since you said the reg rec is new leave that for last unless the stator checks out then go back to reg rec. To check the stator you remove electrical clip from the reg rec. There is three yellow wires that connect to it along with a red and a black wire. Set you multimeter to volts AC. While the bike is running measure the volts AC on each yellow wire. Your honda manual should specify an exact voltage. Most of the time if it is producing 20+ volts at idle on all three wires you are good to go. Also the voltage should increase as the rpms increase.

It should not overflow the carb that quickly. Does your custom still have the autopetcock on the carbs? If it leaks like this regularly then for whatever reason the float needle is not closing all the way. Most likely cause is a small piece of gunk blocking it open a little, or it is worn and needs to be replaced.
