Broken thread on oil pan

Muscle racer
Hey guys.

I changed the oil on my 78 750k, when I notice oil dripping from the oil pan bolt. I tighten it alittle more, when all the sudden, the threads broke and oil started pouring out like crazy. It was a mess.

I'm looking on eBay for a replacement oil pan, but I'm not sure which one to get. Some are almost $100 and some are $30. What years fit on a 78??

I need it fixed ASAP.

Thanks

Maybe you can look up a gasket for a 78 and see what other models are listed that it fits? Just an idea.

I've been staring at pictures on eBay for over an hr.

It seems that from 70-78, the pan are almost the same.

The Automatics have a different pan then the others.

Good idea on the gasket.  I've been doing that as well

Not trying to doubt you,but are you sure it's the threads that stripped? Maybe the aluminum crush/sealing washer just split on you. Sure would be nice...

70-78 K models are all the same. Some F models have the drain plug in a different location to clear the 4 into 1 exhaust, but will still work on the K engine.

I wish that was the case shiny. The threads didn't strip, half of the plug just broke off. 2 big pieces fell to the ground. I have a picture but it won't  let me upload from my iPhone.

The reason I ask about the years, is because eBay has a few 78k oil pans for 80-100 bucks. Then I found other years for 20-30. The shape is the same, but mine has lines going down it, and the others have a smooth circle in the middle of it.

The shape and bolts are all the same.

Should I buy the gasket as well? It's only $15

I would highly recommend a gasket. As, for the lines, and circle, they do not matter. The fitment is all the same.
