Last September some jerk stole my dipstick out of my bike. i just ordered a "1979 CB750 F oil dipstick" off Ebay and it was A: too long, so i cut it (yes, its plastic) and B: the threads are just barely too big. anyone know where i can find one that will actually fit my bike?!

Since all the DOHC bikes used the same dipstick, I am going to say that you got the wrong one off ebay. Yea I know it is surprising that a listing on ebay could be wrong. TOOLS

Hmmm. All the ones listed for DOHC look just like the one i got, however, non of them look like the one that was stolen off the bike. I cant find one online that will work for my bike. Kinda frustrating.

I just looked up that part number and CMSNL show a picture of it - However, it doesn't look like the one on MY CB750L either. The picture shows a plastic one with a 'fluted' stick, whereas mine is definitely all metal with a straight metal shaft with a flat section for the measuring area.

Received the dipstick today and the threads are too big! ordered the part number to a T. it appears the "L" had a different dipstick, cause this one doesn't work either. suggestions??

That does not make sense. Can you post some pictures of the bike?

It would not make any sense for Honda to produce an entirely different engine case which would require a different dipstick for only one limited edition model. That part number and listing of models that used that part number came from a Honda parts fiche. I wonder if the case cover that the dipstick goes into has been swapped with one from a nighthawk? I would just replace it with one from a known 79-82 DOHC engine, like the one in the ebay listing I posted.

Tools / Ramiz09,
here's a couple of pictures of my CB750L dipstick. Definitely not like the ones listed on CMSNL or elsewhere.
I guess as long as the length and thread of a plastic replacement are the same, it should be fine.

That looks like a dipstick out of a Hondamatic. How long is it?
