The headlight is wired through the starter button. It is wired so that when the starter button is pressed, the headlight is turned off. This way all the battery power will be available for the starter motor. Other then that the headlight should be on all the time. As for a wiring diagram, you need one for a 76 F model. However the one for the 76 K model will be pretty close.
