Hi all, I have a 1979 kz model, both cdi units have lost the resin out of them, my question is, what other cdi units will work on the kz model as I am finding it difficult to obtain any for a 1979 bike. I have not tested them yet but I think that they may be useless as I have no spark at the plugs and cant locate any other problem. Thanks

A search found some info, may be of some help. Otherwise, my suggestion would be to find a kx750 from 80+ and rob it of the whole ignition system and fit it to your bike.
Barring that, I dont see why you couldn't grab snark units from another bike from around the same era and put them on. Biggest issue would be making sure you have the right ohm coils so you don't burn them out, and that the advance is similar. It would be a trial and error thing possibly, but it is another option.
Or just toss on a dyna S unit and be done with the points totally. I did that on my 78 and haven't looked back. Over 10 years and I haven't even had to tweak it.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Hi, thanks for the reply, I may not have described my bike fully, its a Honda cb750kz, it has no points it has a pulsar unit, and that appears to be ok, Don't know if this bit of info is any help, Cheers.

Those spark units were used on all DOHC Honda's from 79-83 http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/honda/HP-30400-MA4-601.html they should not be too hard to find.

By the language "knackered" for instance I think this guy is not in the US. He might have a bike with a different designation that was not available here.

Not sure where you are, but they are available from David Silver Spares, here in the UK. £35 + vat each, which, these days, equates to around $38!!

Glad to be of help, Trikeboiler. My brother lives in Dore, Sheffield, so not too far from you.
Tools, is Andy Griffith still alive? I watched Matlock back in the '90's and he looked about 100 years old back then!

Until recently the only shows from the UK that we seen were the Britcoms that were shown on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) channels. I always enjoyed Last of the Summer Wine. Westley's shed was an amazing place.
Say, could someone tell me how long a fortnight is?

I got my dog in a small town right across the VA/NC border. I forget the name of the town but it was the town that Mayberry (sp?) was modeled after. The main street is Andy Griffin Drive and I met the pup owners at the Mayberry Mall.

Hi Tools, a fortnight is 2 weeks,
|

Of all the British TV shows, Last of the Summer Wine is one of the longest running. I think that show proves that boys NEVER grow up! It was filmed in a very pretty part of the country too....must be something in the air!
