                         Motorcycle Classic ; November/December 2011

This is my interpretation of a modern café racer,” Derek says, adding, “The build was mainly because people made fun of my baby — people get attached to things, even ugly duckling motorcycles. It became more of an exercise about what could be done to an unloved 30-year-old motorcycle, and it just got carried away. It doesn’t make much more power than it did, and it wasn’t ever about the power, but more about the looks and how things can be transformed.” And oh, how it has been transformed, from a nobody wallflower to one of the more interesting café bikes out there, Derek’s CB650 shows there’s more than one interpretation of the classic theme. Ive got that magazine and read that article….The guy is a welder and a fabricator and made many of the parts himself, including that swing arm. The most impressive part on the bike? IMHO it's the rear rim. Look close at it, it's a comstar, but it's a little wide for a comstar you say? That's because some of his buddies made the mistake of telling him that there was no way he could widen it, so he did. He took it from stock 2.5" wide to 8.5" wide so he could use a 250 series tire, by welding in two 3" strips! The guy is sick! Love the turn signals flush mounted into the bar ends too.

I thought Daddyman was  back, there for a second. Piute, when I was hunting for info on widening rims I ran across an article on this bike. It said that....cant remember the name of the company???...he sent them to be widened and the cost was $500 for the rear. Yeah, that put me outta the game!
