CL350 -- Latest Revival

mitchell.lee.miller
Last spring I bought this baby for one hundred...

1971 Honda CL350

I CLRed the tank and soaked the carbs in Simple Green and rinsed them out.  Put new in new gas, new oil, and a new batter (all the lights worked).  I Kicked it over and it started up, it took one cylinder longer to fire (carb adjustment).  This was all great but there are some major cosmetics to be done.  Someone spray painted it and beat it.

So I removed the parts I want to paint and I will hopefully gets some paint on by this spring...

Side covers

Tank

When the motorcycle ran everything shifted well, and I was surprised at its get up and go.  After that I got the oil changed right away, and applied for a license.  The license came and I'm ready to get her looking respectable.

With out messing with too much internally, what can I do for the engine revival?  Any Ideas?

I would be happy to give you your money back for it. Before going into the engine, do a compression check. These engines are un destructible. I gave one hell all through School, and could not tear it up.

Oh dude, that is a great deal.  I have been looking for a CL350.  No luck around here, I did see one guy trying to sell a restored one for a couple grand which is ludicrous.

Great.  Thanks for the advice!  I think I'll definitely add a fuel filter--will have to add two probably because the original petcock splits for each carb.  I checked the timing and the points...someone (previous owner?) had taken an oversized screw and jammed it in so the timing would stay consistant and NEVER MOVE AGAIN..  Oh well.

Where do people stand on painting the motor?  Do buy some high heat spray cans and clean and shoot it?

Also someone (previous owNER!?) took a couple of black spray cans to all the front end and back end chrome.  I was thinking I'd throw some mineral spirits on it and then use a polish or buffing wheel to take all that off?  This a good idea?

Anyway...I'll be out in my garage!

Engines should be semi-gloos black!!!!!!!! I just use Rustolium acrylic enamel. If your engine gets hot enough to burn that, you need a new engine.
