Cam chain noise AGAIN

fighterDaz
Hi, my 82 cb750K is very noisy at tick over, Im sure its the cam chain. I have a gs450 with chain noise that I consider normal. I know its been asked before and will be again, but I tried to loosen the front and rear bolts to adjust the chain and nothing changed. Do they have to be loosened at the same time whilst bike is ticking over, can someone give it to me in very easy steps..I am not stupid, but sometimes the obvious can be overlooked. Thanks guys n girls. fD

I adjust the cam chain by loosening the bolt. Then I turn the engine over a 1/4 turn using a wrench on the nut at the end of the crankshaft. Then tighten the bolt. However I doubt the noise is because the cam chain is loose. It is more then likely your carbs are out of sync. When the carbs are out of sync it will sound like the cam chain is about to fly out of the engine. One good way to tell is if it quiets down with a little throttle. Then it is the carbs, for sure.

Tools, are we talking 2500 revs or less, it certainly sounds sweet when revved normaly, its amazing that carbs could make that sound, how??

When the carbs are not synced, the load placed on the engine is not balance as the cylinders are not equalized in power. If you pull in the clutch, it should diminish the sound as well. If so, definitely carb sync related.

I do not know all the theory behind how the carbs would cause this, but it sure does. And from what, you just said, that is your problem. I sync my carbs every season, or when I tune it up. It is surprising, you think it is running good, and when, you start syncing them the engine will just smooth out, like a sewing machine.
