Hello all, Im doing a bit of top end work on a 1980 cb750c. Problem is I am unable to remove the exhaust cam chain off the exhaust cam. Clymer says I should be able to pull it up and off once I have loosened the chain tension. After many other steps of course. Clymer says to pull up on the tensioner with a pair of plyers and tighten the locking nut (to loosen chain). This doesnt work for me. Also, a bit of contradiction in the manual, early in the cam removal process it says to rotate the rotor so either #1 exhaust/intake OR #4 are facing the spark plugs. Later it says to have both #1 and #4 facing the spark plugs??? Could this be why I cant remove the cam chain. I have rotated crankshaft and never have seen both #1 and #4 facing plugs. What am I doing wrong.? Thanks to all, Im pretty new at this so anything helps.

I dont know the dohc engine well enough to give any advice but you should download the manual from here and it will most likely help you out a lot more.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
Good deal. Thanks. I just set the manual aside and went with instinct, removed both exhaust cam sprocket bolts and slid sprocket away from cam mount. That gave enough slack to remove chain and then camshaft. There was no way I was going to get enough slack by 'pulling up' on tensioner with pliers to pull it off. But that must have worked for others, after all it made print.
