Carb. Sync.

DesignBuild
I have a 82' cb750F Super Sport with all stock parts; exhaust, carburetor's, air box etc. I bought it about a month or so ago and have gave it a bit of a tune-up after it refused to start without the choke pulled out. I have replaced the spark plugs, choke cable, fluids, air filter, and i have (reluctantly) pulled the carbs. off twice now and cleaned them. The first time i pulled them i just shot them with some carb. cleaner and put em back on, the second time i pulled the bowls and cleaned the jets and made sure they weren't clogged, i didn't however mess with the needles. After all that it fires up just fine and runs (seemingly) great, only problem is it is inconsistent with its idle. When first fired up it can idle anywhere between 1k to 2k rpm or not at all, and after given some time always bogs down and dies then cant hold an idle. I think the synchronization is off with the air/fuel mixture or the carbs. are just plain out of sync with each other. If anyone has any clues as to whats wrong or how i can fix this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check for air leaks?  SOme carb cleaner spreayed around the boots/etc while it's running will help find one.

CHeck valve lash, and re-shim if necessary.

Yes, sync carbs

i was suspect of the boots for air leaks also, so i'll make sure to take a close look at em today.
as far as syncing the carbs. the only problem is i've never done it and have no ideal how to do it, know of any good places with instructions? or is it worth it to just take it to a shop and have it done?

Hello, sorry for breaking in on your subject, but I have an 76 750 and synced my carbs using the aftermarket manual. You will need a sync set up ( air tube set up you can get from J P cycles for about 85.00 bucks. There are screws you e take out on the intake carb boots that these tubes hook up to. Hope this helps........

I got a call today from where im storing my bike while im working on it (i unfortunately don't have a garage) and they told me the carbs. were dripping gas. basically when i was running it the other day it was flooding the carbs., so i figure im getting alot more gas than i am air. so i got off work and headed over there, after a bit of tweeking the air intake (increasing) i have it idling right around 1k-1.5k rpm.

It still needs to be fine tuned and without a doubt i still think the carbs. need to be synced up. Do you have a link to a site where check out that sync set up? that way i can get a better ideal of what your referring to.

Leaking while sitting I would replace all the needle/seats and check the floats.

nice. half the price is good, thanks for the link.

Btw, i did find that there were air leaks in the boots. Fixed most of the leak by pushing the air box forward more, although i still think I'm going to have to replace the boots to really solve the leaks.
