Carb butterfly valve.

hje_326
My dad and I are restoring my (previously his) 1977 CB750K.  We chem dipped the carbs to clean them out but we are having trouble with the spring that connects the shafts for the butterfly valves and the choke.  Any tips with that?  Everything is stock.
