Ok, Just wanted to add something here,  Saturday I pulled the carbs off again because I was running rich.  I currently have 125 main jets but everything else is stock (in the carbs).  I have a Mack four into one system and pod filters, stock motor.  
If you look at the prverious pictures you will see where I had put the needle adjustment on the second from the bottom notch.  This time I moved the adjustment up on notch to the third one.  This one adjustment seems to have solved the richness.  I also rebenched sync the carbs (more careful this time) and all I have to say is they are perfect.  She started on the first kick. Not a burp, or a pop.

Check for intake manifold or exhaust manifold leak first.

The Clymer's manual shows the clear tube method for checking the float bowl level.
But it specifically says, Set the float level first. It directs the reader to an illustration of a float bowl being measured with a float gauge. I am glad you are using the float gauges .


BTW the vacuum should be around 8Hg. Vacuum. Approximately. That is with the idle turned down to a low idle.

Sorry Lucky, I missed this request somehow.  I will look tonight and let you know.

Sync ing is just to get all 4 slides at the same starting point with in about .007 thousandths.
That way it will idle correctly, and when you pull the throttle all carb slides will advance together at the same time. It is setting the individual idle of each carb based on vacuum created by each piston.

Syncing does not tune the carbs in any way.
