Before checking alignment marks, was the slack taken out of the cam chain?

Also was the engine just assembled, or were you just checking the timing?

Some carbs have needle seats that are pressed in.
The carb kit my son purchased came with new seats that are round with no threads.The old seats have to be pulled out.We did not pull the one's in his but I guess maybe an easy out may work.
