Hi Guys I'm new here. I almost got my build done. I need to build some side covers and finish the exhaust then some pint striping for the tank. But anyway here it is. I put a leaf spring rear suspensiom on it.

I just purchased a trailer spring from Tractor Supply and worked with that. I had 2 plys but it was to soft so the end result was 3. I wish I knew of this forum while I was building it. I had alot of questions and was looking for an outlet for help.

I would have loved watching that bike go together.

Me too! Cool idea! Does it ride much different than stock? It really doesn't matter if it rides awful...it's still cool! Welcome!

|
The ride is just about the same.

Welcome, Cool Bike, What made you think of Leaf Spring? You gonna put a shock on the other side? Just a shock no spring?

I wanted a bobber look but didn't want the hardtail ride. I was going to fab a mono shock spring assembly but I wanted to do something original. I almost went with a torsion bar suspension. Then the leaf spring idea sprung into my head and the chopping and welding began. So far no shock. It not a bad ride. Thanks for looking.

Well as of today she is all legal for the highway. I ordered custom tags for it today to. I got the word "3-PLY" for my tag number. That's how many leaf spring plys I put on it. Come on nice weather!

3-PLY. That's pretty cool I was thinking,I tried to cut and drill a leaf spring off of a Nova one time with zero success on the drilling part. What did you use to drill and cut your spring?
|
|
A chop saw to cut it. The trick to drilling it very slow speed, steady pressure and lots of oil.

..and tungsten carbide bits. Machine shops use them (even to drill out broken taps, and those are HARD) and they will cut leaf spring metal like a normal bit cuts sheet metal. Very expensive, but the only thing better is polycrystalline diamond bits which have a layer of diamond bonded to solid tungsten carbide. Either one will cut anything on your bike like butter. (16 years in auto parts with a machine shop attached, I've used them before!)
I wore out 3 titanium bits, and 4 cobalt bits drilling just 1/8" into a broken tap when I was building my BBC. ONE tungsten carbide bit drilled out the remaining 2" of tap without even getting hot. That one bit was $25, but well worth it IMO.

Tungsten drill bit. I just learned something. Thanks mark

…Tungsten Carbide. Not sure if it's different from just plain Tungsten, as I've never seen a bit claiming to be just tungsten, but you never know with some of the knock-off brands. :)
p.s. AWESOME for being different….Leaf Springs! Coooooool. :)

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo close up pics of the bike=VERY NICE!!!! Man that leaf spring is just freakin' cool!! Im really digging the wrench bracketry ya got going on! Oh and just a fair warning....since you are running pods (earlier discussed) Im probably gonna be hounding you with questions. I love the clean simple look of pods!

Thanks! Sorry I haven't gotten back to you on the jet size. It slipped my mind but I am heading to the shop tomorrow and hope to pass the info along. I have heard alot of talk about crosswind problems. I haven't encountered any yet. I was out yesterday and it was windy as it was about to storm but the bike never stumbled or missed a beat. Maybe it's the way I sit on the bike and my knees sorta shroud the pods.

aw man no big deal! Im just in the day dreaming stage right now...ive still got a lot of work to do before Im ready to step into pod territory. Id like to ride my bike a little before I tear it apart....AGAIN!!??

that's the craziest design I ever saw for a bike suspension. cudos for taking the road less traveled.

I am in the same stage and would love to know how you got these CV carbs working with pods, feel like a kid waiting for Christmas to hear how you pulled it off
