Chain stretch

Reason to check/replace chain and gears. Both chains have 100 links.

This is why people replace the sprockets with the chain. You don't HAVE to replace the sprockets but if your don't, it will wear the new chain much faster. Wheel alignment is also a big deal.

Wanna really extend chain life? Put on a scottoiler. I have seen people get 20,000 miles a basic roller chain using those. This is respectable for oring chains.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

That stretched chain, how was it looking when it was still on the bike? Was it still within the useable range on the wear indicators? Seems one stretched that far wouldn't even lay on the sprockets.

Good catch. Glad you're being safe on your maintenance.!

Wear indicators were full to the rear, no more adjustment room. On the rear sprocket the chain sagged at the bottom of gear. About 2" of slack on old chain between front and rear sprockets. I think i could hear it slapping or "singing" when I would ride. Probably should have moved up the replacement sooner. Great now with new parts. I think clutch plates are next.

Scott chain oilers are a 100% loss oiling system.  They drip oil on the chain, as you drive, giving it fresh, continuous (well, timed, anyway) oil.  They are more mess than a spray-on lubricant, but they will extend the life of the chain, dramatically.  Cheers!
