Charging system

Esawers
Hey there guys just joined the forum! Glad to be here! I have a few questions on my 1979 Honda cb750k.... so at idle the bike will lose battery voltage but very slowly yet when I hit the throttle I see a spike in voltage. Problem is it doesn't go anywhere near the spec 14v. It will rise to about 12.3 and this is with a freshly charged new batterty. My thoughts are rotor? I've checked the stator and brushes but not my r/r. Could r/r cause this problem or more rotor related? Any help appreciated! Thanks!

Sounds like the reg/rec since it is charging some. When the rotor goes bad, they usually do not charge at all.

Rotor is testing at 3.4 on the slip rings so I don't know if I should start there or not

Before buying anything get some contact cleaner and a brush and clean all of your connections. I had a similar problem with my 900 and all it was was dirty/aged connectors.
It's only illegal if you get caught.

Yeah that's a good idea... the guy I bought it from said he rewired everything and it all looks good but one can never be sure with these bikes it seems
