Charging system... ugh.

razorfengraul
So my 79 that I just picked up has had just about every charging system failure that can happen... I just don't do electrical on my vehicles. Period. Hate it.
So took it to my local reputable shop and told them the rotor was shot. I was getting .7-1.0 OHMs with the meter. While they had it (for 2 weeks...) they told me the stator brushes, regulator, and the battery was shot. Said the rotor was fine... replaced the parts and got it back and surprise surprise, still dying about 30 minutes up he road. Pulled off the rotor cover and the rings were pink. (They werent before) Tested and still getting .8-1.3 ohms. Is it possible to get good readings a certain way and not another? Like while running, while warm etc.?
I'm about to just buy a rotor online and do it myself...

Hi.

I know you said you don't do electrics but click on this link   https://www.electrosport.com/media/pdf/fault-finding-diagram.pdf

It'll take you to an excellent fault finding flow chart that I have used on numerous occasions to diagnose charging faults, including the one I had on MY '79 DOHC when I got it. At least it will pinpoint your problem and prevent spending a fortune on bits that you don't need.

I hope it helps you out.
