Choke lever position 1981 Honda CB750

Vinny.F
Hi, new to biking and new to my 1981 Honda CB750F. Love the bike but coughing and spluttering all the time. Done the usual, had a proper service etc. Just checking on the position of the choke lever, the arrow is a bit worn. It looks as though if you drag the lever down to the 6 O'clock position facing towards you as you sit on the bike the choke is OFF - closed.. And if its dragged round to the left to the 9 O'clock position parrallel to the bars then the choke is ON -open. Think I  may have been riding it at the 9 O'clock position. Engine starts stalling whilst sat in first gear at the lights etc. Then need to throttle it to keep engine ticking over. Realise this is really basic stuff -  sorry. Any advice gratefully accepted.

Welcome to the forum. I have never see a dial to operate a choke. Normally, you pull the choke knob out to put the choke on, and push it in to turn it off. Also it sounds like your pilot jets might be dirty, and the air cut valve is going bad.

Thanks Tools - wish it was a pull out or push in. Just a thumb lever on the handlebars - not a dial - just me trying to describe it best i can.  It's either thumb it down or thumb it up. I will try a bit of trial and error then have a look at the pilot jets and cut out valve. Thanks again.

Hi, I'm still learning about these bikes, but, which ever way the lever pulls the cable is putting the choke on, when the cable is not under tension the choke will be off, when you operate the lever and it pulls the cable you will be putting the choke on. Cheers FD (82 cb750k)
