Chopped frame?

barfazoid

I was given this frame by a friend, he did some chopping/bobbing to it previously. It is a 1980 cb750k.
Since the frame was free I didn't have much to lose...

I would love to build a brat and add a tail loop to the end of the frame where it's been hacked off.

Has this frame been chopped to close to the shock mounts? It looks like there is a plate welded to cap the holes so I guess it would have to be cut off to be able to use slugs and weld on tail loop?

Yeah, it's titled and the engine is in good shape. Just need a lot of tlc. I just wanted to confirm the frame wasn't trashed before I start spending money on it. Thanks!

Slide a slug in there with a couple plug welds and it will be stronger than stock.

Site rule #1: If you ask about a build, you MUST start a thread AND post pics.

Thanks Shiny, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I can't weld my self so I'll have someone else take care of that part.

As for the build, I will absolutely start a thread once it gets moving. The tank is currently soaking in some white vinegar to get rid of the rust and the carbs have been cleaned. I want to hear it start before I tear her down.

Great idea to get it started first. You'll probably be fine. If it's not frozen, it's probably ok. They're hard to kill.

I'd be glad to help with any welding if you're local. I'm in Southwest Virginia.

Thanks so much for the offer! Unfortunately I'm in north Florida. I've got a few leads for a local welder so I'll see how it turns out.

I don't think that's unfortunate at all! You get a long riding season down there!

And you're welcome. Good luck on your project. Now, get busy!
