Clutch Cover

taylor
Hey everyone. I am not too mechanically inclined but I have a CB750K3 I am fixing up, and I need screws for the clutch cover on the left side. I looked at bikebandit.com for the OEM diagram but I cannot tell how many of each screw I will need. I'll need 10, but there are two different lengths and I don't know which ones go in which spot. Also, if anyone can shed some insight, how would one go about getting the two bolts that will fit into the battery.

Places like Z1 enterprises, and ebay have screw, and bolt kits available. They are a lot cheaper then going to the hardware store, and buying them individually. Also they will be the JIS head screws, and not the larger Cheese/Panhead the hardware stores carry. However if you are not doing an exact restoration, the allen head bolts/screws are a lot nicer, and are stainless steel.  As for the battery screws, I assume you are referring to the ones that attach the cables. These are not really special screws/bolts, and you can just use the ones from the hardware store there. When installing the screws, I start with the longest screw, and start putting it into holes until I find a hole where it sticks out about 1/2 to 3/4 inch before starting the threads. Then I go to the next size shorter screw until I have all the holes filled. It's like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. Have fun.

Another way to determine the length of the appropriate screw would be to tape the cover to the housing, and using a piece of stiff wire or coat hanger wire.  Put the wire in the hole, and note the length.  Match it up to the appropriate length screw, and move to the next one.

Allen bolts are purtier, but it requires having the proper allen wrench in the toolkit, whilst stranded on the side of the freeway.  Phillips and JIS screwdrivers are more common. Since I have broken down once on the freeway, I made sure my zoom lens bag has just about every tool I need to work on the machine.
