Coils

barnfind
Having problems with my bike with no spark to plugs. I turn key on and check power to coils, the four power wires going to coils, 3 out four have power I'm assuming I should have power to all four right ?
I think the bike is running on one cylinder because #3 exh manifold is hot and that's the I have no power too, the others are cold. I have fuel going to all 4 carbs. Not sure what's going on.
Any help would be great. Thanks.

I have never tested my coils, had a shop try it once and they thought the coils were bad. Still using that same set!
First thing to always do is make sure all connections are clean and tight. Also, your points should be in good shape with proper gaps or the magnetic triggers need to be set right. Make sure timing is right.

From there, check those plug wires. They break down. Also, the plug caps, they screw on. The wire they screw into will corrode. Take them off and snip about 1/2 inch off. Before putting the caps back on, stick test leads in each end. Set your meter to ohms. They should read about 5000 ohms. If they pass, screw them back on snug. Too tight and they can ream out the wire and you have to snip again.

Remember, 1&4, 2&3 fire on the same coils.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Thanks for the help, I did all that you mentioned. The yellow wire from coil to point I have no power, I have power going into coil on the black/white stripe wire but nothing coming out of yellow wire to point. 1-4 coil power on both sides of coil. Not sure what's going on ?

If the points are closed the wire will not show any voltage. Try opening the points and see what happens.

Ok, so I tried that and your right I have power at the coil now but the bike won't start and I have good fuel going to carbs. I have no spark to 1-4 and weak spark to 2-3 if any spark. I'm going to double check the spark plug wires maybe I missed something unless you might have a idea ?

Thanks for the help.
