Okay guys, this sucks. So I cleaned this old gas tank of rust on the inside, then applied Red Kote. Now I just poured some gas straight from the petcock into the glass jar on the left. The glass jar on the right is straight from my fuel canister. It looks like the Red Kote is dissolving in the gas and now I'm putting Red Kote through my carbs and engine. Damn it. I followed the Red Kote instructions to the T. I even have it like 2 weeks longer than the instructions said for cure time.
Well, is there any way to remove the Red Kote from the tank? Should i clean out the carbs of the gas that's already in it from the tank? With the pin holes in the top of the gas tank, I think I just need a new gas tank...

In 1968 that is what good gas looked like, and it smelled pretty good to. However not so good today. I would definitely get that gas out of the carbs ASAP!!!!!! As for cleaning the tank, doubt it.

What would be the best way to flush the carbs? Carb cleaner through the fuel intake?

I would take them apart and clean them in something like lacquer thinner.

I thought redcote had to be backed on, maybe not.
Anyways, with pinholes, unless you have no choice, it is always better to get a good tank.
People have their favorites when it comes to liners, but I have heard good things about por15. Never used it though.
I would stay away from kreme. Heard a lot of horror stories about that one.

Kreme was great until they raised the ethanol levels in the gas, started to peel that stuff right off. My dad ran some muric acid (not sure how to spell) and has been running with no liner without any problems for about a year now. tank still looks nice and clean on the inside.

Re-Run, I'm not sure what backed on means, but the instructions just said to pour it in, roll the tank around so it gets everywhere than let it cure. Well I talked to Red Kote and asked them what may have happened and they said it was probably a puddle that got sealed and then broken open. I think its a load of crap and this product sucks, but thats just me. I did find a new tank from a 1981 cb750 on ebay so I'll be getting that in a few days to throw on. I think from now on I will just try to find a tank with no rust or clean it with acid.

Yeah, that ethanol sure wreaks havoc. With my old tank I'll probably run some muric acid through it and then let someone else deal with the pin holes if they want to.

Baked on, I was in a hurry.
If the tank gets cleaned well, the holes could be welded or brazed closed. It all depends on the tanks condition overall, if it is worth it.

JB Weld works great on small holes.

Thanks tools. I've got some I'll be throwing on it soon. Also I'm going to give the tank a good rinse with Muric Acid. Do you think the muric acid will eat through the red kote? I think the instructions say to use acetone to clean it out. Thanks guys!

I tried jb on a tank and it didn't work for me. It was a larger hole though, someone drilled a second petcock into the tank.

Oh dang, yeah that would be asking a lot from JB. Yeah these are like 10 miniscule little holes, you can barely see them with your eyes. However it will make a clear coat bubble.

It is also possible that I didn't let it cure long enough. I don't think that is the case though. But it was a number of years ago, so I don't remember for sure. It is possible, but not likely, that I used jb kwik, which may not work for gas.
I don't see why you couldn't try it on those pin holes though.
